MI vs NSW: New South Wales crush Mumbai Indians by 5 wickets

CHENNAI: There was a period during the game against New South Wales when it seemed Mumbai Indians would be the first team from Group A to make the semifinals. But it was not to be as the NSW middle-order held firm to go past a modest target of 101 and notch up a five-wicket win.

With their hopes of making it to the last four again put on hold, Mumbai Indians will now have to depend on the results of the other matches in the group to go through. Having played out their last league-stage match, Harbhajan and Co. are stationary on five points, while Blues move up the standings with four points.

With this loss, MI have thrown the contest for the semifinal berth open. If Cape Cobras (three points and a net run rate of 0.443) win their last game against Trinidad & Tobago, Mumbai and the South African side will be even on points and it will be difficult for MI, who have a net run rate of -0.280.
